Raft style illustrates a tree in nature that has been blown over by the wind, taken root and had its branches on the upward side continue growth as new trunks.
We have some shimpaku that we have been training and getting ready for a raft class. They are roughly 1 1/4″ trunk and about 20″ or more in length. The branches have been removed from all sides of the trunk except for one. Those branches that remain, become trees and the entire main trunk is laid on its side and over time we form roots along the main trunk.
This class will focus on potting up the raft and syling up the individual trees. Suitable container and soil required for the repotting is included in the workshop price.
Only students that have attended our beginner class or more experience should apply. Students need to bring their own tools and wire, or purchase what is needed during the workshop.
