Description
Skill Level:Â Beginner to Advanced
Duration: 2.5 hours 1pm to 3:30pm, class size is no more than 5
Description:
This workshop focuses on the specialized techniques required to properly manage and refine Japanese Black Pine (JBP). Known for its unique seasonal care requirements, JBP demands a different approach than other bonsai species. In this class, students will learn the timing, reasoning, and execution behind needle reduction and summer decandling—two of the most critical techniques for developing compact growth and refined structure.
Participants will gain a clear understanding of how to balance energy throughout the tree using needle reduction, and how proper fertilization timing directly impacts the success of decandling. We will walk through the full seasonal cycle, including spring preparation, summer decandling, and fall refinement, emphasizing how each phase influences the next.
This class simplifies complex techniques into a practical, repeatable process. Students will learn how to approach JBP care with confidence, understanding not just what to do, but why each step matters in the long-term development of the tree.
