This workshop focuses on the structural framework that defines a bonsai’s character and long-term design. Moving beyond basic care and introductory techniques, students will learn how to intentionally shape a tree with purpose and vision.

Emphasis is placed on understanding trunk movement, branch placement, and overall composition. Participants will explore how structure influences balance, proportion, and visual flow. Rather than simply wiring branches into position, this class teaches students how to evaluate a tree, identify its strongest features, and make informed styling decisions that support long-term development.

Students will learn proper wiring techniques, including wire selection, placement, and safe bending practices. We will discuss how to plan structural changes over multiple seasons and how to avoid common styling mistakes that can set development back.

This workshop is ideal for students who want to move from reactive styling to intentional design and begin developing trees with greater artistic direction.

Prerequisite:
Participants should have completed our Beginner Bonsai and Horticulture Intensive classes and have a working understanding of basic care principles.

What to Bring:
Participants are encouraged to bring their own bonsai for structural evaluation and styling practice.  Additional supplies are available for purchase in our shop.
